| Welcome
to the special section dedicated to the Fall Listening
Forum. In October 2006, Rockhurst University, in conjunction
with the International Listening Association (ILA), co-sponsored
the Fall Listening Forum: Measuring the Effects of Listening
on Learning, Earning, and Healing. Over 85 participants
from five different countries registered for the event
in the hopes of establishing the Listening Research Agenda
within the contexts of Business, Education, Healthcare,
Religion/Spirituality, and Theory/Research. ILA has generously
dedicated this portion of the website to the outcomes
of the Forum.
Context groups were
led by three to four context leads, individuals that
are true leaders in research, training, and listening!
They were charged with gaining group consensus in a
variety of areas, including identifying instruments
used to measure listening, what is currently known about
listening, what is not known about listening that needs
to be known, and designing and carrying out research
projects. In this section of the ILA website, you’ll
see the fruits of our labors.
Specifically, you’ll
have access to the instrument list that identifies known
measures of listening, running notes from each context
group, and final research project proposals. Please
be patient as we develop this section step by step).
In the future, the International Journal of Listening
will print the State of the Context article for each
context, as well as the research studies.
It is our hope that
this Forum will assist listening scholars with furthering
what we know about listening.
