We
are sad to hear C. Joe Howley passed away in November,
2007. His wife, Ginny, said Joe died of lung cancer.
She went on to say how much “he loved the ‘speaking
career’ and the wonderful people he got to know
in this career.” |

Linda Diamond was recently interviewed by
Doug Caldwell of Central Valley Business Times about listening
and about her listening book, Rule #1: Stop Taking!, and thought
she would share for anyone who would like to listen. :) He
asked questions about the importance of listening--both in
general and in business--and how to become a better listener.
The audio and a brief article are at Central Valley Business
Times. To hear the audio, go to the top of the article and

Julie
Lynch, St. Cloud State University in Minnesota, has
authored a book: Cherishing Sophia.. It celebrates communication
theory in the areas of intrapersonal, interpersonal, and listening
and takes readers into the rhetoric of silence, or contemplative
listening space in order to transform and affect others with
meaningful actions of love and compassion. Cherishing Sophia
balances academics with heartfelt, intuitive knowledge. The
journey refers to the International Listening Association
and is reviewed by Nanette Johnson-Curiskis, Executive Director
of ILA. It focuses on listening excellence and transcendence
in order to find authentic voice. It's been well-received
by students at College of St. Benedict and St. John's University
as a powerful means of classroom discussion. The book will
be available at ILA in March along with its discussion/study
resource. You may also view the book at www.cherishingsophia.com
Congratulations
to all as this month quickly moves toward March and Portland!
