March is International Listening Awareness Month

Public Service Announcements

Below are six Public Service Announcements regarding International Listening Awareness Month. Please forward your favorite(s) to your local radio and television stations to help ILA promote March as International Listening Awareness Month.

1. March is International Listening Awareness Month. Each of us is required to listen in many situations on a daily basis. The phone rings and someone answers. A baby cries and someone responds. But, are we really listening? The International Listening Association promotes the study, development, and teaching of listening. To learn more about the practice of effective listening skills and techniques, visit the ILA website at www.listen.org.

2. Did you know that March is International Listening Awareness Month? And, are you aware that listening is an acquired skill? Just as we learned to listen, we can learn to be better listeners! Here are some good listening behaviors: 1) concentrate on the message; 2) attend to only one message at a time; and, 3) provide appropriate feedback to the source of the message. If you seek more information on effective listening, check out the International Listening Association website at www.listen.org.

3. In today’s world where people forget how to be civil, it’s time to listen! We need to learn to listen to each other in order to make the world a better place to be. Listening accounts for more than half of the communication activity in the workplace, and plays a significant role in our personal and social lives as well. To get more information about listening during International Listening Awareness Month or any other time, contact the International Listening Association at www.listen.org.

4. March is International Listening Awareness Month, but every month and every day is a day to improve your listening abilities. Listening is defined as the process of receiving, constructing meaning from and responding to spoken and/or nonverbal messages. Are you a competent listener? Do you have a positive attitude toward listening? Do you have extensive listening skills? Want to learn more about listening? Visit the International Listening Association Web site at www.listen.org.

5. March is International Listening Awareness Month and it’s time to listen! Have you ever wondered how some people can listen attentively and remember everything others have said? Do you wish you could do that, too? To learn more about effective listening, check out the International Listening Association, a group dedicated to the promotion, study, and development of listening in all areas of life. Contact the executive director at 1-800-ILA-4505, or, info@listen.org. Or, check the web site at www.listen.org. Make today a Time to Listen!

6. Everyone wants your attention, right now! How do you focus on what is important so that you can listen to those you should listen to? Learning how to listen effectively can help you win friends and influence your colleagues. Listening scholars suggest that competent listeners have knowledge about listening, attitudes to help them work at listening, and behaviors to help them be better listeners. Check out the International Listening Association web site at www.listen.org.
